Solo Uva

This how winemaker Andrea Rudelli explains this project:

SoloUva is a method whereby classic-method sparkling wines are produced without the traditional addition of cane sugar to provoke fermentation or to top up the bottle before the wine is released. Instead, reserved grape must is used. Grapes alone go into the wines. As a result, the wines are a pure expression of the terroir where they are produced, not least of all because nothing extraneous is added to the wine. With the development and evolution of the SoloUva method, a new category of Franciacorta has emerged.

Is it better or worse than the canonical style? No, it isn’t better or worse. It is different.

SOLO UVA

Lombardia

Although Lombardy is developing a reputation for its sparkling wines from Franciacorta and Oltrepò Pavese, the wine industry has less importance here than the region’s other industries. That is not to say that the local population do not enjoy wine – far from it. Lombardy’s wines are reaching the peak of success of those of their neighbours in Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto, there is a growing interest in their eclectic wines abroad, and with the quality of Franciacorta DOCG sparkling wines improving constantly it is likely the wines of Lombardy will gain more presence on the international market in the future.
